What volunteer opportunities work for me?
Volunteering at United Food Bank
United Food Bank has numerous volunteer opportunities. We are always looking for volunteers or volunteer groups, either on a one time basis or on a regular basis. Currently, the food bank has four areas that utilize volunteers:
General Handyman Help:
If you are an Electrician, Plumber or General Handyman, we need you! Please consider volunteering your services to help keep United Food Bank operating efficiently. Please call 480.926.4897 ext. 212.
Sorting Donated Food:
Food that is donated to United Food Bank has to be sorted into categories so that the food can be distributed to agencies, who then distribute food to the hungry. A sorting volunteer, age 12 or over, can work Monday through Friday, from 7 am to 2 pm. Evenings and weekends available for groups upon request.
Packing Food Boxes:
United Food Bank has two programs which utilize pre-packaged food. A packaging volunteer, age 12 or over, would assemble these for distribution. The volunteer hours are Monday through Friday from 7 am to 2 pm. Evenings and weekends available for groups upon request.
Citrus Gleaning (Available January-February):
Volunteers pick citrus at donors’ residences in the East Valley. United Food Bank will provide equipment and schedule mutually convenient time for volunteers and homeowners. Volunteers of all ages welcome. Individuals and groups appreciated - no size limit. To volunteer, please call 480.926.4897 Ext. 256.
Clerical Assistance:
A clerical assistance volunteer works with the Office Manager and Receptionist in such clerical tasks as filing, typing letters and data entry. A clerical volunteer can work Monday through Friday from 7 am to 4 pm.
