Improving Chandler Area Neighborhoods
How many times have you asked yourself, “What can I
do to help children in my community reach their potential”?
ICAN of Chandler has some programs and ideas to help you.
ICAN Core Programs, are designed to empower youth to be productive,
self-confident, and responsible citizens. ICAN has been providing
free positive programming to youth from ages five through
eighteen since 1991. Their facility is located in the heart
of downtown Chandler, but the area that they serve has expanded
from the downtown area to include all of Chandler and sometimes
the surrounding community.
ICAN partners with United Food Bank through the Kid’s
Café Program to provide healthy snacks for the youths
participating in their after-school program, feeding approximately
130 neighborhood kids daily. ICAN staff and volunteers help
participants to learn about and make healthy food choices
while assisting students with their homework.
Ms. Christy McClendon CEO, spoke about the need to empower
the students that may have grown up in an environment that
did not always foster high self-esteem and positive choices.
ICAN staff and volunteers offer assistance in five goal areas
of Education, Healthy Lifestyles, Job Skills, Prevention,
and Youth Development. You can find out more about ICAN by
visiting their website at www.icanaz.org.
